Dermaplane in Highlands Ranch & Lone Tree, CO

What is Dermaplane?

Hormonal changes can affect women in so many ways – one of which is an increase in peach fuzz-like hair on our faces. Dermaplaning is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses a blade to exfoliate the surface of your skin and remove unwanted hair without any downtime. This leaves your face feeling smooth, enhances product penetration and your makeup glides on flawlessly.

Who needs Dermaplane?

This treatment is a great option if you are experiencing dry or flaky skin or if you see an increase in vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz. It is also ideal if you have an upcoming event and want a beautiful makeup application. Our dermaplaning procedure incorporates Obagi Medical Skincare as well as a deeply hydrating, hyaluronic acid-based mask so that you leave feeling refreshed and your skin feels silky smooth.

Is Dermaplaning Only Good for Hair Removal?

Dermplaning offers more than just hair removal benefits to patients. Dermaplaning also works to eliminate dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This procedure results in a promotion of cellular turnover and an increase in collagen and elastin fibers, making the skin appear brighter, smoother, and younger.

What should I expect?

It’s best to come to your appointment with your makeup removed and your face recently washed. The treatment itself is approximately 30 minutes and there is no downtime. You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and thrilled at how soft your skin feels after this treatment. Ideally, you have this treatment performed monthly for best results. This is a great add-on procedure to several other treatments we offer - call to find out more about our add-on pricing!

Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker After Dermaplaning?

While many patients believe that their hair can grow thicker after dermaplaning, this belief is simply a myth. It’s not technically possible for hair to grow back thicker due to the fact that dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment that does not invade the hair follicles or the way it grows. Most peach fuzz will grow back after a dermaplaning treatment, but it won’t grow back any different in thickness or color than before.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Ideal candidates for dermplaning are people who have skin that shows signs of dryness, aging, or uneven skin tone. Dermplaning will help the outermost layer of the skin look refreshed and bright by removing dead skin cells from the surface. This procedure can help enhance the complexion of people with shallow acne scars, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.

Patients who currently have active acne, a sunburn, a tan, or an inflammatory skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis should not begin their dermaplaning procedure until their skin is cleared.

What are the after-care instructions?

Dermaplane after care is very straightforward and there is no downtime, but here are some good reminders as you plan for your procedure:

  • Avoid wearing makeup on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or exfoliating agents for 48 hours after treatment.
  • The evening of your treatment, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and warm (not hot) water. Follow with gentle products.
  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible for 3-5 days, always apply/reapply SPF every 80 minutes when exposed to sun.
  • Avoid excessive exercise for 24-48 hours.
  • Avoid facial waxing for 7 days.
  • Pick up your normal skincare routine after 24-48 hours.

It is not uncommon to experience minor skin breakouts after a dermaplaning treatment.

What are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?

Dermplaning can provide many benefits to patients, including:

  • Elimination of dead skin cells
  • Brightening the skin’s complexion
  • Reduce the appearance of acne scarring
  • Gently remove peach fuzz from the skin
  • Helps to achieve even skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Reduces the risk of razor cuts and burns

How Often Will I Need Dermaplaning?

Because the skin is constantly exposed and consistently replacing itself, we recommend patients do a dermaplning treatment once a month or every four to six weeks to optimize their skin tone and complexion. Consistency with dermaplaning will help patients keep their skin looking bright and more youthful.

How Should I Prepare for a Dermaplaning Session?

To prepare for your dermaplaning appointment, avoid exfoliating and using harsh skincare products like retinol or AHAs one week prior. Postpone other facial treatments, minimize sun exposure, and arrive with a clean face without makeup. Inform your aesthetician about any skin sensitivities or allergies, and plan gentle post-treatment care. Proper preparation ensures a smoother procedure and enhances your results.

Can Dermaplaning Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Absolutely, dermaplaning can be effectively combined with other skincare treatments to enhance results and address multiple skin concerns in one session. For example, many of our patients choose to follow dermaplaning with a chemical peel. This combination allows the peel to penetrate deeper into the skin since dermaplaning removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair. It's particularly effective for improving your skin texture and tone while maximizing hydration and brightness. Additionally, integrating a hydrating facial post-dermaplaning provides an extra boost of moisture, leaving your skin glowing and refreshed. Our skincare professionals can help tailor a treatment plan that integrates dermaplaning with other services to best meet your unique skincare needs.

What Long-Term Effects Does Dermaplaning Have on Your Skin Health?

Regular dermaplaning sessions can lead to noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone over time. By consistently removing the top layer of dead skin and promoting the turnover of new skin cells, dermaplaning can reduce the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. Long-term, this can lead to a more youthful and radiant complexion. Moreover, because dermaplaning enhances the efficacy of skincare products by allowing deeper penetration, you may see improved long-term benefits from their routine skincare treatments. It’s important to maintain a consistent skincare regimen and consult with a professional to get the most out of your dermaplaning treatments.

How Does Dermaplaning Compare to Other Exfoliation Techniques?

Dermaplaning offers a unique approach to exfoliation that sets it apart from other methods such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Unlike microdermabrasion, which uses abrasive particles to remove dead skin cells, dermaplaning gently scrapes off the top layer of skin using a precise blade. This not only helps in removing dead skin cells but also the fine vellus hairs, resulting in a smoother and brighter complexion. Chemical peels, on the other hand, involve the application of a chemical solution to exfoliate skin chemically. While chemical peels are effective in penetrating deeper skin layers depending on their strength, dermaplaning provides a physical exfoliation that is especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin or who are pregnant and looking to avoid chemicals.

FAQs

Does dermaplaning hurt?

You generally experience a gentle, light scraping sensation during dermaplaning, but you should not feel pain when it is performed correctly by a trained provider. The procedure is intentionally designed to be comfortable, and the blade glides across the surface of your skin at a controlled angle to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair. Because there is no pulling, tugging, or use of chemicals, you remain at ease throughout the session. Some people describe the feeling as similar to a mild exfoliating treatment. After your appointment, you might notice slight sensitivity, but this typically fades quickly and does not interfere with daily activities. Understanding this can help you feel more confident and relaxed going into your treatment.

Will dermaplaning improve my makeup application?

Dermaplaning can significantly enhance the way your makeup looks and feels. When dead skin buildup and fine peach fuzz remain on the skin, your foundation, powders, and other products may appear uneven or textured. After dermaplaning, you enjoy a smoother surface that allows your makeup to glide on more evenly. You may notice that your products require less blending and that they sit more naturally on your skin. Many individuals use dermaplaning as a preparation step before special events because it helps create a polished, seamless makeup finish. By removing debris and dull buildup, dermaplaning supports a clean canvas that allows pigments and textures to apply with greater precision and consistency.

What is the difference between dermaplaning and shaving?

Although both dermaplaning and shaving remove hair, the purpose and technique differ. Shaving focuses primarily on cutting hair at the surface level and does not address dead skin cell buildup. Dermaplaning, however, uses a sterile surgical blade guided at a precise angle to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin while also removing fine hair. This dual action provides deeper smoothing and brightening effects that shaving cannot achieve. You also benefit from improved product absorption and a more refined texture. Dermaplaning is performed by trained professionals who follow strict safety and technique standards, giving you a more controlled and effective exfoliation experience.

Can men receive dermaplaning?

Men can absolutely receive dermaplaning, and many benefit from the treatment. Although men typically shave their beards, there are areas of the face that still accumulate dead skin and fine hair, such as the forehead, upper cheeks, and temples. Dermaplaning can help improve smoothness, encourage a more even skin tone, and enhance overall clarity in these regions. The treatment can also help skincare products absorb more efficiently, making it a helpful option for men who want a simple and effective way to refine their complexion. Whether you are preparing for an event or you want a regular maintenance routine, dermaplaning can support your skin care goals.

How does dermaplaning support anti-aging goals?

Dermaplaning contributes to anti-aging goals by removing the dull, uneven layer of dead skin cells that can make your complexion look tired or textured. When you exfoliate this outer layer, you reveal fresher, more radiant skin underneath. Dermaplaning may also enhance the effectiveness of your skincare products, allowing ingredients such as serums and moisturizers to penetrate more efficiently. Over time and with consistent treatments, you may notice a smoother texture, healthier glow, and better support for your overall anti-aging regimen.
