What Is Latisse?

Latisse is a prescription serum for people with thin or sparse eyelashes. It contains an active ingredient called bimatoprost that is thought to promote eyelash growth and prolong the natural growth phase.

In other words, Latisse makes eyelashes grow faster and longer. It also helps them look flatteringly thick and dark. Over-the-counter serums just can’t compare.

What Are The Advantages Of Latisse?

Latisse has many benefits, including that it:

  • Enhances the length, thickness, and color of your eyelashes
  • Does not run, smudge, or need to be washed off like mascara
  • Is quick and convenient to apply at home
  • Is completely reversible

Few people are naturally gifted with luxuriously thick lashes. The great thing about Latisse is that just about anyone who’s dealing with short, sparse, or skimpy lashes is a good candidate. It works particularly well for those who are looking to combat age-related thinning and slow growth.

How Do You Use Latisse?

Achieving great results with Latisse means following the application directions. You need to place one drop of the serum on a sterile single-use applicator and brush it across the base of your upper lash line.

For the other eye, you’ll simply repeat this process with a new applicator. Latisse should be applied daily and is a simple addition to your nighttime routine.

Here are some tips to remember:

  • Start by cleansing away makeup, sweat, and oil
  • Remove your contact lenses before applying Latisse
  • Do not apply to the lower lid
  • Blot excess solution with a tissue
  • Keep the tip of the bottle and applicator away from unintended surfaces

How Long Does It Take for Latisse to Work?

Great things take time. Latisse works gradually — but it’s worth the wait.

You may start to see an improvement in the length of your eyelashes by week four. From there, you’ll start to see fullness and darkness. At the 16-week mark, you’ll experience the full effect of Latisse. In one study, after a single application of Latisse daily for 16 weeks, 78 percent of patients saw a significant enhancement in the thickness, length, and color of their eyelashes.

Are Latisse Results Permanent?

Latisse doesn’t offer permanent results. If you stop using it at any time, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance. This will happen over several weeks to several months.

If you’re happy with the way that your lashes look at week 16, talk to us about ongoing use. Most people can continue to apply Latisse indefinitely and maintain its benefits.

How much does Latisse cost?

We are proud to carry both the 3mL and 5mL Latisse in our office. The 3mL is sold for $120 and the 5mL is $179. Don't forget - both are eligible for Alle® points and Park Meadows Perks points, too!

Is Latisse Safe?

Latisse is an FDA-approved treatment that has been involved in extensive clinical studies. Interestingly, the medication was first used to lower eye pressure in glaucoma patients. In the years following, it was discovered that bimatoprost ophthalmic solution – basically the same thing as the glaucoma drug – could lengthen and thicken eyelashes.

Latisse works very well for most people. However, you don’t want to use it if you have a stye, infection, artificial lens, or certain eye conditions.

You need a prescription for Latisse. We offer complimentary consultations to rule out any factors that would make it unsafe for you to use. If you receive the go-ahead to purchase Latisse, you’ll be in good company. Over four million bottles have been bought since its launch!

Are There Side Effects to Latisse?

It is possible to experience one or more of the following side effects:

  • Itching near the eyes
  • Eye redness
  • Dry eye
  • Irritation
  • Skin darkening
  • Eyelid redness

If you experience these side effects, you should discontinue use of the solution and call our office. We may recommend that you use less of the product and apply it less frequently until your symptoms resolve.
