Lumecca enhances skin appearance typically within one to three treatments, effectively addressing the following:

Lumecca treatments are highly versatile and can improve skin appearance on various body parts like your face, neck, chest, hands, arms, shoulders, and legs. Commonly used to address facial wrinkles, sun spots, age spots, rosacea, and freckles, IPL also treats sun damage and pigmentation on the chest, hands, and arms and reduces the visibility of small veins on the legs. 

We’ll provide specific instructions to help you prepare for your treatment, but some general practices we encourage our patients to take include: 

• Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun and skip tanning beds for at least 4 weeks before treatment to prevent skin complications.
• Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days.
• Stop Certain Skincare Products: Cease using products with retinoids, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide one week before your session.
• Avoid Skin Irritants: Do not wax, undergo chemical peels, or get collagen injections for two weeks before your appointment.
• Clean Your Skin: Ensure your skin is free from makeup, lotions, and perfumes on the day of the treatment.
• Compile Your Medical History: Inform your practitioner about any medications or medical conditions that might affect the treatment.
• Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated.

During your treatment, the Lumecca will omit a bright flash of light that might feel like a light snap of elastic on your skin. You may experience redness and a slight warming sensation after treatment, which usually subsides within an hour. Over the next day or two, you may notice pigmented spots beginning to darken. These pigmented lesions will flake off over the course of the following week, leaving you with a more even skin tone. For vascular lesion treatments, the vein may blanch and disappear. The vein could also change color, which will dissipate after a few days.

You should see some improvement in your skin after the very first session, with even better results after multiple sessions. Your specific number of sessions will depend on factors like the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage), and the energy settings of the Lumecca device.

Your skin will continue to look younger and more radiant over time, with the most visible results after one to two weeks. You can improve the final result by scheduling multiple photofacial sessions. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, you can expect to see results in up to two weeks.

Lumecca treatments are generally considered to be mild to moderately uncomfortable. If you've had IPL in the past, the technology has improved greatly and this is not uncomfortable as compared to other IPL's. Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a light snap from a rubber band against the skin. The discomfort is usually brief and can be managed with topical anesthetics if necessary.

Most patients do not experience side effects, and skin reactions typically resolve in a few hours. However, your skin will temporarily be more sensitive to sunlight. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight and tanning for at least two weeks after treatment.
