How Long Does It Take To Recover From Kybella Injections?

You don’t have to take time off work or put your social life on hold to tackle stubborn fat. Kybella® injections can reduce the appearance of a double chin with minimal downtime.

The side effects associated with Kybella, including swelling, bruising, redness, and/or discomfort, are often mild and short-lived. They typically subside within a week or two.

Kybella has a shorter recovery than many other double chin treatments. For example, some chin liposuction patients don’t return to work for a few days. They may need to wear a compression strap, and the swelling and bruising can sometimes be more significant.

Of course, everyone heals at a different pace. Your experience may differ from someone else’s. However, Kybella should be a good way to achieve your goals without much downtime.

Kybella Post-Treatment Tips

It’s impossible to completely prevent swelling and bruising after Kybella. These are normal side effects. However, you can take certain measures to speed up the recovery process, such as:

  • Icing the area: Ice can help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort from Kybella injections. We’ll provide ice during your appointment. We can also send you home with an extra ice pack. However, you’ll need to take a few precautions because it’s possible to make the area too cold. Don’t apply ice for more than 20 minutes at a time. Always keep a layer of fabric between the ice and your skin to avoid burns and poor circulation.
  • Avoiding blood thinners: Blood thinners can cause additional bruising. This effect happens because they slow down blood clotting. Steer clear of NSAIDs, alcohol, and certain supplements before and after your Kybella treatment to minimize discoloration.
  • Postponing strenuous workouts: Intense physical activity can increase inflammation. So you should avoid vigorous exercise for three to five days after Kybella injections. Otherwise, you aren’t giving your body enough time to work through the swelling.
