What Does and Doesn’t Help Your Eyelashes Grow

As more and more people look to grow long, voluminous eyelashes, more treatments pop up, hoping to address those desires. While some have tremendous anecdotal evidence, science has other things to say.

If you’re looking to grow your eyelashes, here are some common treatment plans and if they truly work.

Castor Oil for Eyelash Growth

One of the most prevalent home remedies for eyelash hair growth is the use and application of castor oil. Derived from castor beans, the oil has been purported to be useful for various reasons, from medicinal uses to even hair growth.

However, castor oil may not be truly beneficial for hair growth. The FDA has only approved castor oil use as a laxative, and no scientific evidence exists that castor oil leads to hair growth.

Eyelash Curlers

An eyelash curler is a device that nearly everyone can use to give the appearance of fuller eyelashes by redirecting the direction of the lashes from straight up to curved upwards.

The key here is that eyelash curlers do not affect hair growth and offer only a change in appearance. It should be noted that while eyelash curlers may not help with hair growth, they may damage the eyelashes if curler use is too aggressive.

Speak with a trained aesthetician to learn the health of your eyelashes and if your curler use is damaging them.

Growth Serums

Eyelash growth serums contain proven hair growth ingredients such as key vitamins and minerals. In fact, multiple studies, such as one from 2020 and one from 2015, looking at the efficacy of different growth serums, found them effective.

Different serums are on the market, so consult with a professional such as those at Park Meadows Aesthetics to help determine the right one.
