What Is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is an injectable prescription medicine similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. It is used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows. In addition to frown lines, Xeomin® is sometimes used to treat forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Unlike other neurotoxin treatments, Xeomin® is a “naked” injectable because it contains no additives or proteins. Some think that this may prevent the treated area from becoming resistant to the injectable.

How Does Xeomin® Work?

Every time you frown or squint, the muscles between your eyebrows contract. This muscle action causes your skin to crease. Over time, your skin loses elasticity, and these creases become deeper-set.

Xeomin® improves the look of lines by temporarily reducing muscle contractions in the treated area. This process won’t leave your face looking stiff or overdone. Our licensed nurse injectors will strategically administer the treatment to create a seamless result. We know that you want to look like yourself, but with fewer lines.

What Is the Difference Between Xeomin®, Botox® Cosmetic, and Dysport®?

The main difference between these injectables lies in their formulation. Xeomin® is often called a “naked” injectable because it does not contain accessory proteins. It is uniquely purified to include only the active therapeutic component. Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport®, like other botulinum toxin type A products, contain additional proteins that are generally thought to be unnecessary.

Currently, no studies have determined whether accessory proteins affect the long-term safety or effectiveness of these treatments. However, many believe that Xeomin® may be less likely to cause allergic reactions or resistance over time because of its purified formula.

Dysport® differs in that it tends to spread a bit more after injection, which can make it useful for larger areas such as the forehead. Your injector will recommend the best option for your needs based on your treatment goals and the area being addressed.

What Are the Benefits of Xeomin®?

Xeomin® offers a wide range of benefits, making it an attractive treatment for those looking to enhance their appearance. Some notable advantages of Xeomin® include that it:

  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles between the eyebrows, across the forehead, around the mouth, and in other treated areas
  • Helps prevent new wrinkles from forming by limiting muscle contractions
  • Requires little to no downtime
  • Produces noticeable results within days

Best Candidates for Xeomin®

Xeomin® may be right for you if you are an adult looking to improve moderate to severe frown lines. Before performing any injectable treatment, our staff will ask you about your medical history, allergies, and your experience with similar products, if applicable. These questions will help ensure that you are a good candidate for Xeomin® treatment in Lone Tree, CO.

While most people are excellent candidates for Xeomin®, there are a few situations in which the treatment may not be appropriate. These situations include if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a skin infection at the planned treatment site
  • Have received another botulinum toxin product in the last four months

How Is Xeomin® Administered?

We perform Xeomin® injections from the comfort of our non-surgical treatment rooms. Our licensed nurse injector will administer Xeomin® to specific muscles in your forehead to begin relaxing your frown lines. This process generally takes approximately 10-20 minutes. You may feel a pinching sensation and some tolerable discomfort. We typically recommend at least 30 units to start, and we require at least 20 units per treatment.

How Often Can I Get Xeomin® Treatments?

Xeomin® injections are typically administered every three to four months for consistent results. Schedule an appointment to refresh your injections when you feel that the effects are fading.

You may find that you need fewer treatments after using wrinkle-relaxing injectables for years. That is because you may become more aware of the muscle movements that cause wrinkles, which can help you keep your face more relaxed moving forward. Your muscles could also become less strong and therefore require less maintenance.

Do You Offer Anything for Pain or Anxiety Related to My Treatment?

Yes! We are excited to offer the addition of Pro-Nox to any treatment or procedure at Park Meadows Aesthetics! Pro-Nox (Nitrous Oxide), also known as laughing gas, is delivered through a small mask over the nose to help you relax (yet remain awake) during treatment.

As the gas begins to work, you’ll feel less agitated and nervous. The effects of nitrous oxide are mild. It is safe to use and is quickly eliminated from the body. If you're interested in adding this to your treatment or procedure, let us know!

Is Xeomin® Safe?

Xeomin® has been FDA-approved since 2010. It is a prescription medicine that was proven effective in two clinical trials of 547 healthy adult patients. You can trust it to help you achieve your cosmetic goals!

Xeomin® is not without potential risks and side effects. That is why you should always visit an experienced provider. Your risk of side effects increases if your treatment is not prepared or administered properly, which can happen in the hands of an unqualified injector.

Potential Side Effects of Xeomin®

The most common side effect of Xeomin® in people with glabellar lines is a headache. Other possible side effects include, but are not limited to:

  • Discomfort or pain at the injection site
  • Dry mouth
  • Neck pain
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Eye problems

Some side effects may occur that generally do not require medical attention. They can go away on their own. Talk to our team for more information.

How to Prepare for Xeomin®

A little preparation can help you get the best possible results from your Xeomin® treatment. Our team may ask you to avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements such as fish oil or vitamin E for a few days before your appointment. These can thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.

It’s also a good idea to arrive with clean skin free of makeup or heavy skincare products. If you have a history of cold sores, let our staff know in advance. Following these simple steps can make your visit smoother.

Combining Xeomin® With Other Treatments

Xeomin® works beautifully on its own, but it can also be paired with other aesthetic services for a more complete refresh. Many patients combine Xeomin® with dermal fillers to smooth wrinkles and restore lost facial volume in the same visit.

Others add skin treatments such as microneedlingLumecca IPL, or VI Peel to improve tone and texture. Our team can create a personalized plan that safely combines treatments so you can enjoy great results from every angle. They may not always be performed during the same appointment.
