Why Sunscreen Matters More After Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Sunscreen becomes especially important when your skin is recovering from a professional treatment. Our skin care services at Park Meadows Aesthetics in Lone Tree, Colorado, include options that exfoliate the surface or use light and radiofrequency energy to address concerns such as discoloration, texture, and visible aging. Taylor, our licensed esthetician, has worked in aesthetics since 2014 and has a particular interest in skin health.

Why UV Exposure Matters During Recovery

Many rejuvenation treatments temporarily leave the skin more sensitive. Redness, warmth, dryness, or peeling can be part of the normal recovery process, depending on the procedure.

Extra UV exposure during this period can add irritation and may contribute to unwanted pigmentation. It can also work against the reason many patients pursue treatment in the first place, especially when the goal is to improve sun damage or uneven tone.

Aftercare Changes With the Treatment

The exact instructions depend on what you have done. For example:

  • Lumecca IPL: Our Lumecca IPL guidance recommends avoiding direct sunlight and tanning for at least two weeks because the skin is temporarily more sun-sensitive. Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is also recommended.
  • Morpheus8: Keeping the skin hydrated, staying out of direct sunlight while it recovers, and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen daily are important parts of Morpheus8 aftercare.
  • VI Peel: Skin can be more sensitive as it peels, so our VI Peel instructions recommend staying out of the sun and using SPF 30 or higher outdoors.
  • Dermaplaning: Although there is no formal downtime, recently exfoliated skin still benefits from limited sun exposure and consistent sunscreen use after dermaplaning.

These instructions are not interchangeable. Follow the recommendations you receive for your procedure rather than assuming the same routine applies after every appointment.

Make Daily SPF Part of Your Skin Care Routine

Sun protection remains useful after the initial recovery period. Broad-spectrum sunscreen, shade, hats, and sensible limits on direct exposure can help protect your complexion from additional UV damage. Your provider may also ask you to pause retinoids, acids, scrubs, or other active products for a short time while the skin settles.

For ongoing home care, our SkinMedica® products include sun-protection options alongside other medical-grade skin care. We can help you determine which products are appropriate immediately after treatment and when to restart the rest of your routine.
