Dark spots can look similar in the mirror even when they have different causes. At Park Meadows Aesthetics in Lone Tree, Colorado, we use both Lumecca IPL and VI Peel to improve selected forms of discoloration, but each works differently. Our skincare team includes Taylor, a licensed esthetician who has worked in aesthetics since 2014.
When Lumecca IPL Works Well for Discoloration
Lumecca uses intense pulsed light to treat brown and red discoloration. Pigment absorbs specific wavelengths of light and converts them to heat, while the same technology can also target superficial blood vessels. We use Lumecca for concerns such as sun spots, freckles, photodamage, rosacea, and small vascular lesions.
Because Lumecca works on both pigment and superficial vessels, it can be especially useful when brown spots appear alongside redness or visible capillaries. Treated pigment may darken temporarily before flaking away over the following week. Our guide to what happens during and after Lumecca IPL explains that process and post-treatment sun protection.
Skin type also matters. Lumecca is generally safest for lighter Fitzpatrick skin types because darker complexions can have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We evaluate your complexion before recommending IPL.
Where VI Peel Fits In
VI Peel uses a chemical solution rather than light to exfoliate the skin and encourage cellular turnover. We carry the full VI Peel line, including formulations used for UV-related pigmentation, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, acne, acne scarring, uneven tone, and signs of aging.
VI Peel can be used across a wider range of skin tones, including deeper complexions. It can be a useful choice when discoloration appears with acne, rough texture, or melasma. Our overview of what a VI Peel can do explains the available formulations in more detail.
How Do You Decide Between IPL and a Chemical Peel?
Start with what is creating the uneven tone. Brown sun spots accompanied by redness or visible vessels can point toward Lumecca. Melasma, post-acne marks, acne, or texture changes can shift the discussion toward VI Peel.
Your calendar matters, too. Both require careful sun protection, but VI Peel involves visible peeling over several days. If you are preparing for a wedding or another occasion, our event-ready skin guide can help you think through timing.
Find the Right Approach for Uneven Tone
Pigmentation is not one-size-fits-all. Call Park Meadows Aesthetics at 303-662-8668 or schedule a consultation with our team in Lone Tree, Colorado. We can determine whether you are dealing mainly with brown pigment, vascular redness, melasma, post-acne discoloration, or a combination and discuss which treatment fits that pattern.
